Glad the surfer came out okay!
I remember as a teen jumping into big waves in the Caribbean and being pulled under and pinned to the sand floor...only to get up and do it again. I waterski, wakeboard, white water raft, etc. But, I would be scared out of my mind if I saw a wave like that coming at me. And, if you look at that wave from the side, it looks like a face is in there - YIKES!!!Kimbra Kaschhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16955657301998255029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910901195415494293.post-76554078033909620222008-11-10T19:29:00.000-07:002008-11-10T19:29:00.000-07:00Christy -- I know a lot of people who are older an...Christy -- I know a lot of people who are older and are surfers. The guy from the kid's group The Wiggles, Jeff (purple one) is in his 50s and he's an avid surfer.

Tracy -- I had a bad experience with water when I was younger too. I jumped into a swimming pool and for some reason I forgot how to swim. I nearly drowned. One of those strange, unexplainable things. Good for you for getting your kids into lessons. That's so important.

Dee -- Yeah, it's huge and it's somewhere down by you in Australia. I think it's south Australia. You got the waves down there, that's for sure!

Brenda -- I hear you on water being powerful. I've only body surfed and boogie boarded, plus regular swimming. Now I'm more into nice mellow fresh water kayaking. :)Rena Joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02328844122193024220noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910901195415494293.post-35719432926154706632008-11-10T15:43:00.000-07:002008-11-10T15:43:00.000-07:00water can be a powerful force...I've never been a ...water can be a powerful force...I've never been a surfer gal, mainly because of waves like this..grin...

Great pic...Brendahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11938209711584620272noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910901195415494293.post-24032745653939851792008-11-10T15:36:00.000-07:002008-11-10T15:36:00.000-07:00Thats one big wave - amazingThats one big wave - amazingDeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07777307445206154909noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910901195415494293.post-72434348733160451322008-11-10T14:06:00.000-07:002008-11-10T14:06:00.000-07:00No, I can't even imagine. I was once caught in an undertow and seriously thought that was that. Now I could have decided never to go near the water again, become afraid and pass that fear onto my kids but I decided not to. My love of the water is too great so instead my kids are in swimming classes (before they turned 1) and whenever we visit the coast, we head to the beach.

I never underestimate the power of nature (of any kind - from oceans to hurricanes to earthquakes to ice storms!) but I also never forget the beauty.

Thanks for sharing the awesome picture Rena!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910901195415494293.post-63040379182944973082008-11-10T12:05:00.000-07:002008-11-10T12:05:00.000-07:00Wow! Honestly I wish I could experience something like that. ~sigh~ I go to the Carolina coast a lot, but where we are, the waves are pretty tiny (especially compared to this) I always tell myself that when my kids are older and they don't need my constant attention, I'm going to try surfing some day. But then again . . .I'm not getting any younger. I wish I would've learned in my younger years. I don't think I'd ever master anything as grand as your picture, but maybe I could manage one of the baby waves in Myrtle Beach. ;0) Not to mention, I'm getting more cautious and less care free in my old age too. but I have to try it at least once. Right?

ChristyC.R. Evershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09034891037873664976noreply@blogger.com
