Hey, Kool-Aid!

Today is National Kool-Aid Day. Well, I believe the celebration lasts all weekend. Did you drink this stuff as a kid? I remember buying packets at the grocery store and then coming home to mix it up with sugar and water. It was like 15 cents for a packet, so it was something my mom would let me buy. My friends had it at their house and most birthday parties I went to served it as well. My favorite flavors were cherry and grape. The original 6 flavors were cherry, grape, lemon-lime, orange, raspberry, and strawberry. Later, tons of bizarre flavors came out, such as Sharkleberry Fin, apple, Strawberry Split, even chocolate. Some flavors were in other countries and others were discontinued. I haven't even looked at a Kool-Aid display in a long time, so I really have no idea what's available today. The history of Kool-Aid is interesting. If you'd like to read it, click here. I haven't had a glass of Kool-Aid in years. I'm more of a juice, flavored water, diet soda drinker, to be honest. But I have to admit, it sure was a big part of being a kid! What was your favorite flavor as a kid? Do you still drink it now?

  1. My parents wouldn't buy it for me as a kid. I'm grateful for that now, but man, was I ever jealous of the other kids in the neighbourhood who did have it in their house. Kids usually had it at birthday parties, so I didn't totally go without it. My fave flavour was strawberry.

I do not allow our girls to drink it. My thought is, if it has the ability to corrode a penny, imagine what it could do to their bodies. Not saying it would corrode their organs, but it's not something I want to be going into their mouths.

  4. Sadly we were more of a 'Hawaiian Punch' family. :) I remember seeing all the cool commercials for Kool-aid as a kid though and thinking it had to be something really special since we never got it. lol

  5. I still love Kool-aid but rarely buy it. I seem to have kids that are spill-a-holics. Even the ones I am babysitting love to spill.
My favorite flavor when I do buy it is cherry. My 22 year old sons favorite was strawberry-kiwi. I have never seen the chocolate flavor how weird would that be to drink and would it be brown? *gag* Now tomorrow I think I will have to go and see if I can find some of the clear Kool-aid to have here.
Oh I had a friend that always had Kool-ail for the kids but she did not add sugar to it! Talk ablut nasty! Oh and no it was not pre sugared it was the lil cheap stuff that calls for 2 cups of sugar!

We do not drink KoolAid, but I do remember as a child buying it to make syrup for snow cones.
