I was going to post something yesterday on Facebook about homemade Christmas presents. Then I did a search and found there was a page made for that, but it didn't have much information. So, I thought I'd post about it here and see if anyone has any ideas. I think Christmas will be difficult on a lot of people this year, especially with so many people being out of work. We took a huge pay decrease moving here and Rick doesn't get to work overtime like he used to. I've been looking around for things I can make. I've come up with a few ideas, but wanted to see if anyone else had any as well.
How about you -- will you be making any holiday gifts this Christmas?
Rena, unfortuanately, I do not have family to celebrate with this year, but I have read around and seen a few ladies making gifts for friends/family. I've seen homemade journals from cardstock, knitted mittens, hats, or scarfs, and some folks have had some great ideas of going to the thrift stores and re-furbishing items and they look brand new.
ReplyDeleteI do not know if this helps much, but just my two cents worth! :)
I always make gifts. Over the years I've made mosiac garden stepping stones, jewlrey, knitted socks, mitts and hats, mason jars of homemade granola or homemade dehydrated fruit and fruit leather. I've also written stories and made notepads or stationary. Christmas is such a fun time of year - but I usually start working on gifts way earlier.

I'm sure that people will be making things this year with the recession. I am completely craft anal, so I will not be making anything. lol I'm sure with your talent, you will make beautiful things whatever they may be.

My friends always look forward to my wild blackberry jam. I pick the berries in July and put it up; then if my mind doesn't let me down and I remember what I did in July come December, I make a fancy wrapping and tuck some jars in baskets.
ReplyDeleteI always try to make things like gift jar recipes, jellies, banana bread, etc...Each year I try doing themes...like this year, I'm thinking about doing a pumpkin theme...making the pumpkin butter, pumpkin bread, etc. using the crock pot...I'll probably add a store bought pumpkin scented candle, etc.
ReplyDeleteWe've always given out eggnog and chocolate milk to our friends (kinda along the because we milk cows theme...grin) but this year we may have to forget doing that because of cost...sigh...
Last year my daughter and I made fleece throws for everyone. Everyone had their own colors and themes. I would do the cutting, then we would tie the ends together while we watched movies. It was great fun.
ReplyDeleteI always make some gifts. Hats, scarves, caramel corn, pillow cases, all and anything I can think of.
ReplyDeleteI used to take each of the kids to the fabric store and let them pick out fabric for each other. They always helped me make pillow cases and Christmas stockings. The kids still use those presents.
Plus, I'll be posting about some homemade holiday gifts.
I'm not crafty at all. I try. I really do. So I'm depending on you to have some cute EASY things to make. Will you please?
ReplyDeleteI haven't decided what I'll do this year, but food gifts are always great! I've made candies, pumpkin bread, herb-infused olive oil...
ReplyDeleteThere are some great ideas here - I'm feeling inspired!
Okay - first I am still laughing over Nancy's "craft anal" comment.
ReplyDeleteWe do alot of homemade gifts here - usually to our friends or if we are going to a party. Vince does alot of preserving, jams, pickling as well as baking. I am in charge of making them look pretty so I usually make a nice basket for people with various jars that I have covered in fabric pieces and ribbon. Vince also makes his own wine so a bottle of that goes in the basket as well.
