We finally watched Saving Mr. Banks for the first time last night. We had wanted to see it in the theater, but by the time we got around to being able to go, it had stopped playing. Fortunately, my mother-in-law sent it to us on DVD, so we got to see it finally. What a great movie. As a writer, it really gives you a lot to think about.
Ironically, we were at Disneyland the day they were filming this movie. Only a small part of the film takes place at Disneyland. We had just arrived to the park as they were filming the section on Main Street. We had to walk around the back of the buildings while they filmed. Everyone was great about the inconvenience, and pretty soon rumors started flying about Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson being there. We never spotted them, but I was able to take a few pictures.
Later in the day, they blocked off parts of Fantasyland. I think we were in line for Dumbo when I took the picture above. They were just getting ready to film the carousel scene. You can see the 10-cent admission signs that they put up for the movie. It was cool seeing people walking around in clothes from 1961. Unfortunately, we didn't see Tom and Emma get on the ride, but that would have been really cool. Now that I've seen the film, it's even neater to think we were there. It's a great film, and I highly recommend seeing it, especially if you're a writer.
Excellent movie - Saw it when it first came out in December and would definitely see it again. Would love to get it on DVD so that I can see the outtakes and what not; highly recommend it and Tom Hanks did an excellent portrayal - E :)
