Big, Bigger ... BLAM!

A few days ago, Christy posted a newspaper clipping from when she was in the 6th grade. She challenged people to do the same. I haven't been in the newspaper nearly as much as my husband, but he worked as a cop for 20+ years so he was always in the paper. I do, however, have a few and wanted to share one from when I was 11 years old. This paper was from 1976, so it's yellowing and falling apart, but I managed to get the pictures scanned. Considering the newspaper is 32 years old, I'm surprised it's still in one piece. This was for an afterschool program at a local park. One time they had a bubblegum blowing contest and my friend & I entered. I don't remember if we won anything, but I do remember getting gum stuck in my hair. Check out the Mickey Mouse earrings -- was I cool or what? Don't answer that ...

  4. Hey - I still wear Mickey Mouse earrings! So they are SOOO cool!

Sadly I don't think I have ever had my picture in the paper. Such a sheltered life I have led!

Cute picture though Rena! (I still love to blow bubbles like that now - my kids think I am the coolest mom in the world! And we know THAT won't last long! lol)

  8. WOW !!!

    Amazing! And sooo fun.

I was only in the paper once that I can think of - for a play I was in - and I doubt I could find the photo. Great job at finding it, scanning it, and most of all - saving it!

So many things I wish I would have saved over the years. I'm just not organized enough.

  9. Thanks everyone!

Kim -- I hear you on the saving part. I just happened to get my baby book from my mom and this old article has been stuck between the pages for years. Otherwise, it probably would have been long gone by now.

  10. Great pictures Rena! I was in the paper when I was little, I was learning to swim. My instructor was helping me float on my back. I hated it - and the picture too!

  11. LOL Nancy -- I bet you looked adorable though!

I have another article someplace when Rick graduated. They asked what we were both going to do over the summer. I said, "Just hang around with Rick." The reporter wrote something about me not going to the local NOW meeting that was going on that particular weekend. Maybe I'll scan that one sometime.
