It's FREE?

Sugar-free, fat-free, gluten-free, carbohydrate-free, cholesterol-free and what is this, CALORIE-FREE? What? How can that be? A salad dressing that is calorie-free? No way! That can't be possible. If it is possible, it has to taste horrible, right? Nope. I recently bought the Walden Farms Creamy Bacon salad dressing and guess what? It's GOOD! It was so good that I went back and bought the bleu cheese salad dressing, the raspberry fruit spread, the chocolate syrup and the chocolate dipping sauce. I don't know if I like the dipping sauce just yet. It tasted a little weird to me, but the chocolate syrup was okay. I put it on a banana with some peanut butter. I just tried the fruit spread and it's pretty good. I'm now on a quest to find the peanut spread. Rick wouldn't let me buy the calorie-free ketchup. He said that was blasphemy. He's a huge ketchup eater and I'm not, so it doesn't matter. But if I like the peanut spread, all will be good. One of my favorite things to eat is a banana with peanut butter, drizzled with chocolate syrup. If I could eliminate the calories of the peanut butter and the syrup, that would be perfect. In a perfect world -- all food would be CALORIE-FREE!

  1. Hmmmm. Does it have an after-taste? That is one of the reasons I don't like fat free and sugar free, etc. I love salad. I might have to try some of this.

  2. The fruit spread did have that sugar-free aftertaste, but I didn't notice it with the salad dressing that much. The bacon makes it really flavorful. :)

  3. Yeah, I normally do not eat sugar free foods due to the aftertaste, but that bacon dressing sounds tempting...I'll have to see if that brand is sold in my grocery store!

  4. FREE is a very good price - 'cause when it's not, my thighs pay the cost.

I usually try to eat organic, natural stuff - but the bacon one might be worth it - especially after this past weekend. I spent so many days feasting - it's time for a little fasting.

  5. I'm very leery of anything that says sugar/fat/calorie free. Something has to replace those things, and for the most part, it's man-made (re: Splenda or *shudder* aspartame).

    But bacon, you say?

    <_<

Okay, it can't be all that bad.

  6. I've never seen anything that is calorie free, except water maybe. It does make you wonder what's in it. Sounds as though it tastes all right though.

  7. Kelly -- I've seen this brand in 3 different stores here. You can check their website for locations too.

Kim -- Yeah, I wish the price was free, but it wasn't. I did find them on sale for $3 when I think they're usually $4 regular.

Gale -- LOL @ the bacon comment. About the only thing sugar-free I buy are sodas, gum and just recently, pudding. The salad dressings really aren't bad, at least not the 2 I've tried.

Kate -- I know what you mean. I've been saying for a long time if they can make soda/soft drinks calorie-free, why not food? But they have to substitute it with something, I guess. I don't mind things with Splenda in it and I'm pretty sure that's what they use for these brands.

    Thanks for replying everyone!

  8. Vince picked up sugar free honey while we were in Florida - my mom just couldn't believe that even honey could be sugar free now! lol

  9. Glad it tastes good, but I don't know how everything can be calorie free these days. It has to have some calories or it's not food, right? Or maybe not?

  10. Tracy -- sugar-free honey? I'm not sure if I saw that on the Walden Farms site or not. I know they had all sorts of stuff.

Stephanie -- I don't know either. I always joke when my kids eat Cheese Puffs because they don't resemble anything like food.

From what I've tried, the fruit spread and the chocolate sauces have a strong aftertaste. That doesn't bother me though because I've been drinking diet soda for years. But the salad dressings I've tried are really good!
