A Hairy Decision ...

A friend of mine took this picture of me in 1984. You might even know him -- Rick Scarry, as he's been in hundreds of TV shows and movies. I met Rick when he was working as a disk jockey for a radio station called KMET out of Los Angeles. Rick still works as an actor, but he no longer DJs and doesn't have as much time for photography like he used to. We lost touch over the years, but recently we connected again through Facebook. He's a sweet man. I think he's in Italy at the moment -- the life of an actor -- sigh.

I was 19 when this picture was taken, so it was 24 years ago. Damn, that sounds ancient just writing it out. That's my natural hair color, by the way. A lot of people think I have black hair, but it's actually dark brown. I've been debating going back to my reddish-brown color. So I ask you all, what hair color do you think I should be -- reddish-brown or dark brown?

  1. Being a person of the dark brown hair persuasion...I'd suggest dark brown.

There's this product called Color Oops that, if you were so inclined to try the reddish-brown and hate it, you can use and it will take the unwanted colour out. Permanent colour, btw, not just temp stuff:

Good luck in whatever you decide. :)

  2. Thanks Gale. I've been coloring my hair darker for so long, but it's really a lot lighter like this picture. Does that stuff only work for recent colorings or would it remove the stuff that's been there for a long time?

  3. The darker hair looks more dramatic, the lighter hair softens your look more. But I think you look good both ways :^)

I remember listening to KMET and Dr. Demento on Sunday nights. I was so sad when they went off the air.

  4. Sherrie -- That's great you listened to KMET. I met Dr. Demento one time when I visited Rick at the station -- such a funny guy. Thanks for the comments on the hair, btw. :)

  5. I think you look fab just the way you are, Rena! But I know what you're saying -- every now and then I get bored with my hair color and want a change. If you can't decide, what about dark brown with some reddish highlights?

    Neen :D

  6. According to one of the comments from that link, a woman had dyed her hair several weeks before using it and it worked.

It's mainly made for people who had lighter hair, have dyed it darker and want their light colour back again.

I've never used this product myself (haven't dyed my hair in over 10 years), but I thought it would be a viable option for you, if you wanted to try it.

  7. You hardly look like you've aged at all. I'm one of those who believes in you natural hair color. The dark locks look good on you, but I alway think the natural color looks best with the skin tones. Just something to consider.

  8. What a great picture but you look so much the same. I can't decide which I like better. I think someone said dramatic for the dark and soft for the light and I'd agree. Fun either way.

I dyed my hair red last year and it was so fun. I'd do it again if I lived near a good hairdresser. They wouldn't know how to die my hair here.

  9. I've only known you with dark hair, but I think going lighter again would be great!

  10. I've never been one for dyeing my hair. Plain old mousey for me. I love your natural colour. But in the end it comes down to which one makes you feel better?

  11. It is really neat seeing how much your girls resemble you around the same age!

  12. It shows the sad state of my life when I read "Rick Scarry" and immediately thought of Richard Scarry - the children's author! lol (Love those books!) Anyway, I like you hair the way it is - it suits you. And who goes back to their natural colour anyway? lol Gawd, if I did that, it would probably be all gray by now! eek.

  13. Isn't facebook wonderful?

It's hard for me to pick a hair color for you. I think you look marvelous in a darker and a lighter shade. So . . . I have to pass on a vote. I think either one will be marvelous on you.

  14. Like Tracy, I thought of the author, too! Anyway, you look great!

  15. Great pic! I'm like most, I have a hard time deciding which look is better, because they both look so good...I've colored mine for so long, I don't think I even remember what the natural hair color is...grin...
