I'm currently re-reading The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. It's been years since I read it, so I wanted to read it again. For Christmas, Rick gave me the DVD set of War & Remembrance. That's one of my all-time favorite mini-series, although it's a hard one to watch. Rick also gave me the book below, which I want to start reading next. It's about an Auschwitz survivor as well.
I read Fortunately The Milk to the boys not too long ago. That was a fun, quick read. We all really enjoyed it as well. I also read Coraline sometime around Halloween. I love Neil Gaiman's work. I still haven't read The Graveyard Book, but I hope to someday.
My friend Walter sent me a copy of Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson. I read that while we were driving down to California. The boys and I are the only ones in our family that can read in the car. Rick and the girls all get carsick, for some reason. I really enjoyed this book though, and could totally relate to the main character.
I'm still reading The One Year Bible too, which was one of my New Year's Resolutions. Today is the seventh day, and so far I'm keeping up with it. And you? Read anything good lately?
Just finished Jesus Land. Very sad story too, depressing like Anne Frank.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look that one up. I'm really into stories about the Holocaust. I love Anne's book. She seemed so bubbly and spirited. I'd like to read more on her, as I know there are some other pretty good books written about her.
DeleteThe Graveyard Book is the only Neil Gaiman book that I've read (oh, and his Chu picture book)!
ReplyDeleteI get carsick while reading too unfortunately. For long rides that I really want to read, I take a Dramamine and that does help.
I really need to get The Graveyard Book. I've been wanting to read it forever. I also have his alphabet picture book. I think it's called The Dangerous Alphabet. You'd like that one!
DeleteI've never read Fortunately the Milk. I like the cover. I'll have to look that one up.
ReplyDeleteIt's a fun read -- one that goes really quickly. My boys really enjoyed it. Totally about using one's imagination. :)
DeleteHi Rena, I just finished reading the arc of A Plague of Unicorns by Jane Yolen. I'm not really into fantasy, but it is a book I think kids will enjoy (especially boys).
ReplyDeleteThat sounds really interesting. I'll have to look that one up as well. I'm always interested in books boys will like. :)
