Eeeeek!

Do you like scary movies? I hate scary movies. I think that stems from seeing them at too young of an age. My mom used to take me to see movies that I wasn't old enough to watch. I don't know what she was thinking. I'd never let my kids see some of the movies I saw when I was younger. Below is a list of 10 movies that scared me to death and I will NEVER watch again --
  1. The Exorcist
  2. The Omen
  3. Halloween
  4. Nightmare on Elm Street
  5. Cujo
  6. The Lost Boys
  7. The Shining
  8. Eraserhead
  9. Carrie
  10. Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane

The hamster scene was too much in #10 when I was a little girl. I guess being married to a cop for over 20 years, and before that when Rick worked for an ambulance, I've heard my share of real life horror stories. In addition, I'm such a news junkie, and that's scary enough most days. I don't like extremely violent movies either, especially ones like the old Charles Bronson films where people are being killed left & right and women are being attacked. Those make me sick to my stomach to watch. As for dark or suspenseful movies, these are more my speed --

  1. Nightmare Before Christmas
  2. The Corpse Bride
  3. Dracula with Bela Lugosi
  4. Frankenstein with Boris Karloff
  5. The Burbs
  6. Sweeney Todd
  7. Jurassic Park
  8. Hocus Pocus
  9. Igor
  10. Godzilla (originals)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know -- I'm such a wimp!

  1. I would not call you a wimp at all. I'm the exact same way. Parts of Sweeny Todd were a bit too much for me! When I was little I was taken to the drive in to see the movie Walking Tall. eeeeeewwww, it was awful.

  2. That one sounds familiar too, Nancy. I hated the Billy Jack movies. Don't know why I saw those when I did. Deliverance was another awful one. Ugh.

  4. I loved the Lost Boys, thought it was funny.

But what about Rosemary's Baby. That one flipped me out. And the Omen!! Ack! Scary!

  5. I am not into scarey movies either. I took things so literally as a kid that I had nightmares for weeks after seeing The Incredible Shrinking Man.

Another movied that deeply disturbed me was Clockwork Orange. I'd read the book, but the movie freaked me out.

  6. I didn't see a horror movie until I was in college. It was "The Stepfather." I was terrified and people around me were laughing. I couldn't believe it! I know it was a lame movie (and I can't believe I let a friend drag me along to see it!) but I don't like scary movies either. They stay with me and freak me out for too long.

  7. Oh, I loved scary movies - still do. I remember being scared of The Night of the Living Dead - an early zombie movie.

I read the exorcise and thought it was scary - the movie not so much.

I read The Shining and almost every other SK book - loved 'em. My favorite was Salem's Lot :)

  8. I rarely watch scary movies anymore but I did see a lot on your list. The LIttle Girl Who Lived Down the Lane SCARED ME TOO!!!!!! I so remember that one! I'm a scaredy cat so I will only watch a scary movie if I have to...The newest Amityville Horror with Ryan Reynolds was filmed around the general area where I live. The church where I was married in was in it!

  9. The first ten films you listed are some of my all-time faves. Save #8, I don't think I've seen that one. I'll never let the girls watch them until I think they can handle them (re: late teens). And that's if they're partial to horror films at all.

Of the last ten listed, the only two I'm not fond of are #8 & 9. The rest are pretty cool. (LOVE The Burbs - Tom Hanks is so great in that)

  10. I've only seen Jurassic Park and Hocus Pocus . . . and they both scared the pants off of me. I don't enjoy scary movies AT ALL! (Or scary books.)

  13. I like spooky stuff but not slasher films. Eraserhead, though - that belongs in a category all its own! Pure weirdness.

  14. I saw Poltergeist when I was 19. I slept with the light on for 3 nights. My husband made me watch The Lost Boys with him. He's not asked me to see any more scary movies.

Those are the only two I've watched. I know my limits!

  15. A wimp? Please - you are positively brave compared to me! lol Two of the scariest movies from my childhood? Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (kids in cages... hello!) and Wizard of Oz (Damn flying monkeys!)

Psycho is still the scariest movie that I have ever watched.

Its funny, I can watch horror (but I don't) because to me it is just so fake... but a good suspense movie like Psycho or the Sixth Sense leaves me quaking in my boots!

    Wimps of the world... Unite!
