Critter went to Glacier!

We took Critter into Glacier NP today. It was kind of crowded, considering only 8 miles of the road is open so far. Not only that, but it's National Park Week and admission is free, so that added to the extra people. I wish I could take Critter further up the Going-To-The-Sun Road, but they've just begun plowing and it won't be open for a few months. The summit is where Glacier is really spectacular, but it can have up to 80 feet of snow on it, so it's a huge feat to plow it in the spring. It's also where the mountain goats are commonly seen. However, the road is still covered under gobs of snow, so we could only go as far as Lake McDonald Lodge.

Critter had a good time though. He posed in front of the lake with the mountains behind him. Do you see those horizontal white lines on those huge mountains? THAT is the road I'm talking about. And I don't just mean the one white line you see at the low point. Look for a line on the very upper right of this picture. THAT is the road! It's one freaky drive! Critter also posed by the Glacier NP sign with my goofy looking boys. And then he relaxed a bit on the rocks next to the lake. He was searching for the flat ones for the boys to skip into the lake. He had a good time, though I wish I had requested him further in the season so I could take him more places.

Part of the condition of hosting Critter is to find someone willing to host him next. So, if you would like to be Critter's next host, please leave a comment here or email me. I'll be posting a few more blogs with Critter soon. In the meantime, if you'd like to have him visit you, please let me know. While we were in the park, Critter spotted a Common Loon in the lake as well as a Columbian Ground Squirrel. These little critters hibernate most of the year, so it's fun to see them when they're out. Critter wanted to get his picture with him, but you know how snobby squirrels can be!

  5. When my daughter is old enough to appreciate them, I plan on taking her to the National Parks every summer. I believe every child should.

  6. I'd love to host Critter, but I'm not leaving for the VI until the end of May. So I'm thinking someone else should have him as a guest. I sure do hope he gets to visit the islands though.

    Nice pictures Rena.
