Colors

I recently read a short picture book called Colors, written by Dana Warren and illustrated by Stephen Macquignon. The book is a cute, simple rhyme that explores the beauty of colors. It's available through 4RV Publishing, who is the same company doing my books. In fact, Stephen is the one who will be illustrating my book, The Marshmallow Man, later this year.

The book got me thinking about favorite colors. Mine have always been blue and fuchsia. The last time the boys got a new box of Crayola crayons, I went nuts over the Wild Blue Yonder one. They got my favorite shade of blue down perfectly with this one. It looks just like faded blue jeans, or the shade of my favorite cowboy boots. I guess I went a little too nuts over it because the boys are scared to use it much. The other day Nathan said, "You can keep it in your room, if you want." What's even more funny is that I thought about it -- for a second. Click here to see all the current shades of Crayola crayons. They have a great website, by the way. I use it a lot for craft ideas. There's nothing better than a new box of crayons!

So -- what's your favorite color? Do you have a favorite crayon color?

  1. Red!
What I need to do is decide what shade of red is my favorite. Of the Crayolas, it's just plain Red.

  2. I really, really like red lately. Deep, rich red. Like crimson.

I like PJ up there. :)

Looks like a great book! My daughter would like it. She loves colors.

  3. Pink. My favorite color has always been pink. When I was little I had a pink room. Light pink walls, pink shag carpet, (just dated myself there) pretty light cream sheers on my windows and light cream dresser. I LOVED my room!!

  5. Thanks for the website - I have added it to my 'kids craft sites.'

As for colours - well, I love blue or deep green. I couldn't believe all the crayola colours on that site - that is incredible.

  8. I agree, you can't go wrong with a new box of crayons! I love the way they look when you first open the box, how they smell, everything.

Cobalt blue is my favourite colour.

As for my fave crayon, I couldn't possibly choose! Cerulean. Periwinkle. Scarlet comes to mind; it's not as orangy as regular red and is just as vibrant. There's a green that I really like, but I can't recall the name of ATM.

  14. That’s a fun link! I don’t think I have a favorite color I can enjoy all of them, what I do love about color the most is the way you can use it to express emotions it is a great way to help tell a story

  15. As a kid my favorite color was yellow. As a teenager it was blue. (I called my room the Blue Room it was soooo all things blue.) As a young adult, all shades blue and green (tropical influences.) But in time I evolved into loving all colors, for one without the others seems lost and alone. What has always amazed me is that from yellow, red, blue, white and black...we get so many shades.

It's like music. From 7 notes, there is an infinite number of ways to put them together.

  16. Red! Although according to The Color Code (personality test) it means I'm controlling. Hmm...

  17. When I was a kid my favorite color from the 64 box was the sea foam green. Now I just about can't pick. Periwinkle. Fuscia. Burnt Siena. Forrest Green. I love colors. For whatever reason they really speak to me. In fact, I just blogged about it yesterday and a mutual reader of ours suggested that I check out your blog. I think we are on the same page. *Cue the Twilight Zone music*

  18. Blue, blue, blue, rose, blue, rose, blue. Did I say blue? Actually, I like most colors with a blue (as opposed to a golden) base. Minty greens, rosy/cocoa browns, lavender, mauve, orchid, fuschia, burgundy. But blue reigns.
