Some photos --

I haven't posted a slideshow in awhile, so I thought I'd do that today. You might remember me mentioning a photo cover contest for a local Montana magazine awhile back. If they put your picture on the cover of their magazine, they'll pay you $100. I've had a bunch of photos published by them before, but so far they haven't picked any of mine as a cover. These are some of the ones I've sent in, which is why they're all vertical shots. I'm not sure if any of them will make the cover, but the contest is on-going, so I'm going to keep trying. The only one I didn't take myself was the one of me in my kayak. That would have been a little tricky, so Rick took it. Click here to see who won last month's contest. I hope you enjoy seeing them ...

  1. Those are amazing. The bear's face was a little scary, loved all the waterfalls, and the owl - that was a hoot - can't believe you caught an owl.

    Great!

  2. Thanks Kim! Funny about the owl because there were actually two of them. We were visiting a park in Great Falls, Montana when we saw them sitting in the tree. I have a bunch of pictures of them, but I sent this one into the magazine because it was a vertical shot, which they need for the cover. But the other owl is just as cute. Just babies waiting for their mother to come back -- :)

  4. Wow, gorgeous slideshow! I love the shot looking straight up the tree - I did a sketch from that angle for the book dummy I'm working on.
Hope you make the cover soon!

  7. I love, love, love nature photography! Your photos are gorgeous. I know you'll get a cover soon! You have great perspective in your photos. The geese photo cracked me up for some reason. They look like they are marching or something!

  9. Beautiful shots Rena! Love the bear - hopefully he wasn't as close as he seemed in the picture? And the waterfalls - just lovely.

  10. Thanks everyone -- :)

Tracy asked about the bear, so I thought I'd shed some light on him. He's on of the grizzlies at the Grizzy & Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, MT. It's a wildlife centre right outside of Yellowstone NP and you can see grizzlies and wolves close up. These are animals that can't be reintroduced into the wild. They're absolutely stunning to see this close up and the grizzlies are HUGE! I did have Rick's telephoto lens for that shot, but in all honestly, you're super closet to them. You can see the enclosure in the background a bit. If you're ever in Yellowstone NP, it's worth the drive out to the West Entrance to see this place. There's also an IMAX theater and all sorts of cool shops in town. West Yellowstone is also the coldest place in the entire state of Montana in the winter. In the summer it's absolutely gorgeous!
