Bugs on my table?

Okay, so they're not real bugs. They're actually cute bugs. Don't ask me why I'm showing you my coffee table. I'm weird. But now that you've seen it, isn't it cool? This table was a school project when my oldest daughter, Nichelle was in 2nd grade. Each child painted a bug on a tile. One of the parents turned it into this table. At the annual school fundraiser, the table went to auction. My mother-in-law bid and won the table. I have no idea what the bid got up to, but I was very surprised when she gave it to us. There are 22 other families who would have loved to have this table with their child's painting on it. Nichelle's tile is the ladybug on the bottom with the polka dots around it. Too cute. At the same school fundraiser, my other daughter's kindergarten class made a quilt. And yes, my mother-in-law bid and won that too. I have it hanging on my wall. I'll save the picture of that for another post. So now I have two questions for you --

  1. What's on YOUR coffee table?
  2. Do you have something that's one-of-a-kind that you cherish?

And finally, there is a children's book blog tour going on now for Holly Jahangiri's adorable story, Trockle. You can follow along the tour by visiting here. I will be posting a review of the book myself, as soon as my copy gets to me. It's about a little monster who lives under a bed and it's beautifully illustrated by Jordan Vinyard. My boys & I are anxious to read it. Check it out if you can!

  1. 1. We don't have one, heh
    2. All I can think of at this ungodly hour (thank you, cough-that-won't-leave-me-alone and your partner-in-crime, headache-from-cough) is my teddy bear that I've passed along to our girls. I've had him since I was their age. He still squeaks if you squeeze his tummy. :)

  2. Underneath all the magazines, star gazing books and the thick layer of clear acrylic resin (you thought I was going to say dust...didn't you?) there's an 1844map of Texas.

I have many one-of-a-kind things that I charish. Among them are some dolls made by my mother. I intend to blog about them soon.

  3. That's funny - I was thinking of posting a picture of my coffee table! The surface was wrecked so I made a mosaic of broken floor tiles on top. I wouldn't say I cherish it, but it is one-of-a-kind...

  4. Hi Rena! That's such a cute table. What a great idea! I have an Amish coffee table my parents gave to us for Christmas 1999. Wow, I can't believe I have had it that long. It's currently sitting in my garage being stored. When we moved here our two youngest were still toddlers so we decided not to use it until they were older. Well, they are 4 & 5 now. I was recently thinking we should probably bring the coffee table into the house.

  5. Gale -- That's great you still have your teddy bear and have passed him along to your kids. I hope you feel better soon too.

Bish -- That map under your table sounds really neat, especially with how old it is. I'll be looking forward to your blogs about your dolls.

Adrienne -- Now how funny is THAT, especially since just yesterday I posted to you saying how much we had in common. Too funny.

Erin -- I hear you on putting the table up. We did that with this one for awhile too. We had it at home for awhile until the boys came along and then we had my ILs keep it at their house for awhile. It has really sharp edges and I didn't want the boys hurting themselves on it. Now that they're older I don't worry about them falling on it, but I do freak when they go running by and try to drive a Hot Wheels over it. Ugh! For whatever reason, both cats LOVE the rough edges of the wood too, so they're always rubbing their faces on it.

  6. Great table! What a neat idea...

I don't have a coffee table...that would be just one more thing I would have to dust...can't have that...

My one-of-a-kind cherished item is a coffee cup my son made for me when he was 8 years old...I don't drink out of it, but I have it on my bookshelf at my desk, so when I'm missing him, I can see it...

  7. My coffee table is wooden and very scratched due to three kids! It currently has my writing notebooks, folders, two markers, a Leapster and folded clothes on it! :)
I liked your ABC book entry on your other blog too, Rena! I am trying to find the right publisher for mine. My son's fave ABC book is Sharkabet.

  8. Brenda -- Your coffee mug sounds really sweet. Isn't your son older and living away from home now?

Kelly -- My other coffee tables sound like yours. Scratched, old and usually covered with stuff. If it's not fishy crackers, fruit snacks or Pop Tarts, it's usually covered with PS2 game boxes. I'm glad you liked the ABC book on the other blog too. Thanks for stopping by over there!

  9. I totally blogged about you and your post today...tee hee!

  10. yes, he is out in the real world where mommy can't protect him or do his laundry anymore...grin...

  11. Sunshine -- love your post. I loved the contents of your purse too. OMG! How funny and sounds like something I'd do. We'll have to compare purses sometime -- LOL!

  12. I dont have a coffee table, but if I did, it would be covered in toys.

What I cherish is my huge rocking horse, I had it custom built - its my heirloom to pass on to future generations (so I will be remebered for somethig at least!)
